Espanol, Pretend

Question by ahh: How to say "to pretend to be" in espanol?

I am saying "and she pretended to be him" (talking about a movie), how would I say this? I am just confused about the two verbs and two subjects in the sentence.

Y ella pretendió ser él. / Y ella pretendía ser él(imperfect)
